Collection of 33 student notebooks from Garstang's undergraduate and graduate work in mathematics, physics, astronomy, and related courses at the University of Cambridge (1943-1945 and 1948-1951). Also includes a 12-page description by Garstang of the mathematics program at Cambridge in the 1930s and 1940s with brief descriptions of the courses as well as his comments on individual courses and instructors. Hartree was born in Cambridge and educated at Bedales School, 1910-1915. He entered St John's College, Cambridge in 1915 but his course was interrupted by war and he joined the team led by A.V.
